A levél írója Szelke Árpád újonc tengerész akadémikus kadét, később U-16 fregatthadnagya. 1916. október 17-én a süllyedő U-16 tengeralattjáró kapitánya őt utasította a titkos iratok és a hajókönyv megsemmisítésére / S.M. The letter writer is the Austro-Hungarian Navy freshman cadet (Árpád Szelke), later the Lieutenant commander of U-16 submarine.
