Pietsch, Deutschmeister-, Witwen- und Waisen-Stiftung (Aktion im Felde) Rudolf Kristen egy kevéssé ismert osztrák karikaturista volt, aki elsősorban az első világháború idején készült rajzaival hívta fel magára a figyelmet, és akinek humoros képei egyszerre borzongatnak és nevettetnek a front mindennapjairól. Kristen 1889-ben született Bécsben, tanári diplomát szerzett, és már a háború előtt is készített rajzokat, de világháborús alkotásai főként tábori levelezőlapokon jelentek meg 1917?1918 között. Több mint száz rajzos tábori levelezőlapja ismert, amelyek egyszerű vonalrajzokkal a lövészárokélet, a fronthétköznapok és a katonák mindennapjainak humoros-kritikus ábrázolását mutatják be. A grafikák jelentősen eltérnek a korabeli hivatalos propagandarajzoktól azzal, hogy nem gúnyolják alá az ellenséget, hanem gyakran a saját sorsukon és a háború abszurditásán ironizálnak. A háború után Kristen visszatért a tanári pályájára, rajzokat is készített később is, kritikával illette a náci eszméket, és végül 1946-ban, nehéz körülmények között halt meg Bécsben. Rudolf Kristen was a little-known Austrian cartoonist who primarily drew attention with his drawings made during the First World War, and whose humorous images of everyday life at the front both make you shiver and laugh. Kristen was born in Vienna in 1889, earned a teaching degree, and had already been drawing before the war, but his World War II works appeared mainly on camp postcards between 1917 and 1918. More than a hundred of his drawn camp postcards are known, which present a humorous and critical depiction of trench life, everyday life at the front, and the everyday lives of soldiers with simple line drawings. The graphics differ significantly from the official propaganda drawings of the time in that they do not mock the enemy, but often ironize their own fate and the absurdity of war. After the war, Kristen returned to her teaching career, continued to draw, and criticized Nazi ideas, before finally dying in Vienna in 1946 under difficult circumstances.
