Szathmári Papp Károly - Carol Popp de Szathmári, (1812-1887): Erdélyi származású festő és fotográfus, a kelet-európai fotótörténet egyik legjelentősebb alakja. A világ egyik első haditudósító fotósa (krími háború, 1853-56) Udvari fotográfus volt Bukarestben, a román fejedelmi és királyi udvar megbecsült alkotója, úttörő szerepet játszott a népviseletek, társadalmi típusok és kelet-európai kultúra fényképes dokumentálásában, Művei ma múzeumokban (pl. Bukarest, Bécs, Párizs) szerepelnek. Szathmari esetében egy ilyen vizitkártya nem egyszerű műtermi portré, hanem tudatosan komponált, dokumentáló jellegű felvétel, amely hidat képez a művészi fotográfia és a korai néprajzi ábrázolás között.

Carol Popp de Szathmári, (1812-1887): A painter and photographer of Transylvanian origin, one of the most significant figures in the history of Eastern European photography. One of the world's first war correspondent photographers (Crimean War, 1853-56). He was a court photographer in Bucharest, a respected artist of the Romanian princely and royal courts, and played a pioneering role in the photographic documentation of folk costumes, social types and Eastern European culture. His works are now in museums (e.g. Bucharest, Vienna, Paris). In Szathmári's case, such a business card is not a simple studio portrait, but a consciously composed, documentary-style shot that forms a bridge between artistic photography and early ethnographic depiction.
