Az Orvosi-Sebészeti Folyóiratot Johann Jakob Hartenkeil (1761-1808) alapította, aki 1787-től kezdve a salzburgi hercegérsek udvari és személyi sebészeként szolgált, és jelentősen modernizálta a salzburgi egészségügyi rendszert. Hartenkeil halála után sógora, J. N. von Ehrhart (1779-1860) folytatta a folyóiratot. The Medical-Surgical Journal was founded by Johann Jakob Hartenkeil (1761-1808), who served as court and personal surgeon to the Arch-Archbishop of Salzburg from 1787 and significantly modernized the Salzburg health system. After Hartenkeil's death, his brother-in-law, J. N. von Ehrhart (1779-1860), continued the journal. Ehrhart studied philosophy in Salzburg and medicine in Vienna, initially working as a physician and professor in Salzburg. In 1820, he was appointed councilor and health officer of the Tyrolean provincial government and director of the medical-surgical studies in Innsbruck, where he actively and successfully continued the reform of the Tyrolean public health system.
