Intriguing handwritten document dated November 2, 1915, in Novi Banovci, a small town on the Sava River, between Belgrade and Novi Sad in the Voivodina.Signed by the Catholic parish priest of the town and bears the parish seal (in Slovenian). Although the area was majority Orthodox Serb, there were also large numbers of Catholics, mostly German, settled in the area by the Habsburg government in the 18th century. The document is signed by four of the S.M.S. Maros?s officers, including the commanding officer, Linienschiffleutnant Hermann Bublay (born in 1885, commissioned Linienschiffleutnant on May 1, 1913), and the first officer, Fregattenleutnant Friedrich Svoboda (born in 1890, to be commissioned Linienschiffleutnant on May 1, 1917).
