1938. "Nyugatmagyarországi Labdarúgók Alszövetségének Bajnoki Érme / 1937/38 - I. díj" részben zománcozott, jelzett Ag díjérem füllel, mellszalag nélkül, "BGY" gyártói jellel (40mm/0.900/36,89g). A Nyugati alszövetség I. osztályú bajnokságát a Tatabányai SC nyerte meg. Az 1937-1938-as szezonban még területi alapon szerepeltek az NB I. alatt induló csapatok. A Bányász az országos szinten másodosztálynak számító Nyugati alszövetség I. osztályában szerepelt, melyet története során már nyolcadszor nyert meg, kettő ponttal megelőzve a Soproni FAC (SFAC) csapatát. A Nyugat bajnokaként a Bányász elindulhatott az Országos Vidéki Bajnokság egyenes kieséses rendszerében, amelynek győztese feljutott az NB I-be. A kék-fehérek a negyeddöntőben a Mezőtúrt ejtették ki 4-2-es összesítéssel, az elődöntőben pedig az akkor még vidéki településnek számító Rákoskeresztúr csapatát győzték le. A döntőben az első mérkőzést a Tatabánya 1-0-ra megnyerte a Salgótarján SE ellen (ami nem tévesztendő össze az SBTC-vel), ám a visszavágót 3-1-re a tarjániak nyerték, így ők jutottak fel az élvonalba. Azonban a Tatabánya is vigasztalódhatott: a következő szezontól az NB I. alatt bevezették a B-osztályt Keleti és Nyugati csoportra osztva, ahol a Tatabánya (és a SFAC) is indulhatott. A Nyugati alszövetség I. osztálya ettől az idénytől a harmadik ligának számított. A Tatabánya egyébként a Nyugati alszövetség meghatározó csapatának számított ezekben az időkben, 1938-ig lejátszott 23 idényéből 18 alkalommal is érmet szerzett. Az élvonalba viszont csak 1948-ban jutott fel először a csapat, s egy idény után búcsúzott is. 1956 és 1992 között viszont folyamatosan az NB I-ben szerepelt a Bányász, többször kijutott a nemzetközi porondra is, ahol több neves csapatot is legyőzött, mint pl. a Real Madrid, az Ajax, a Kaiserslautern, a Dinamo Zagreb, a Bologna, vagy a Stuttgart. Ám a 92-es kiesés után már csak két rövid időszakot töltöttek el a legjobbak között: 1999-2001 között kettő, illetve 2005-2008 között három szezont. Jelenleg az NB III-ban szerepelnek. T:AU / 1938. The Tatabánya was considered the dominant team of the Western Sub-Association in those times, won medals 18 times out of the 23 seasons it played until 1938. However, the team only reached the top division for the first time in 1948, and was relegated after one season. Between 1956 and 1992, Bányász played continuously in the NB I, and also made it to the international stage several times, where they defeated several famous teams, such as Real Madrid, Ajax, Kaiserslautern, Dinamo Zagreb, Bologna, or Stuttgart.
